FESTIVAL GALA SCREENING: Withnail & I
SOLD OUT
With very special guest Paul McGann in person to answer questions following the screening.
In 1987 Zeffirellis hosted the premier of a small budget British film shot in Cumbria. That film was Withnail and I and has since become more than just a cult classic, it defined an era and launched its stars off into the Hollywood stratosphere. Join the eponymous ‘I’ (or Marwood for the purists) Paul McGann who will introduce the film and be in conversation with author and journalist Luke Turner about the films impact and legacy.
London, 1969. Two unemployed actors, Withnail (played by Richard E Grant) and Marwood (Paul McGann), are destitute and desperately in need of a change of fortunes. They decide to go on holiday to a cottage in the country. The cottage is owned by Withnail's eccentric uncle, Monty (Richard Griffiths). Things don't go entirely smoothly and get even more complicated when Monty arrives unexpectedly.
By kind permission of Kate Bush and in aid of War Child we will be screening her short animation ‘Little Shrew (Snowflake)’ before each film across our main festival programme.
